Ames Comprehensive Plan
Bronwyn's Council Preview |
The City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. this Tuesday at city hall. The agenda includes (but is not limited to):
-
1. Discussion of Parking Meter Rates and Customer/Employee Parking in the Downtown.
Due to recent implementation of parking meter rate increases, Council got feedback from Downtown business owners, who are proposing a change in parking time limits in the lots pictured below. In addition, Council had also been considering hiring a consultant to do a Downtown parking study, and staff have presented some options for the scope of study. -
2. Neighborhood Summit.
Periodically, Ames holds a "neighborhood summit", the last being held in 2014. Currently, Ames has 25 registered neighborhood associations, some more active than others. One suggested modification from staff would be to establish official qualifications for neighborhood associations, which don't exist currently. -
3. Ames Comprehensive Plan.
This is the beginning of a long-awaited process to overhaul our Land Use Policy Plan, and reference all related plans in what we are now calling a "Comprehensive Plan". The request for proposals went out to potential consultants, and staff are recommending awarding $225,000 to RDG Planning and Design for this project. This will be an important process to watch unfold, as the Comprehensive Plan will guide decisions about the growth and development of Ames for the next 20+ years.
