Workshop on Landscape and Millennial Marketing Campaign
Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen's Council Preview |
The Ames City Council begins at 6:00 PM. The agenda includes:
- 1. Presentation of Millennial Marketing Campaign Concept - ZLR Ignition.
The City is in the process of a marketing campaign to attract millennials to locate in Ames. This consultant's report includes feedback from a Dec. 2015 workshop with Council, as well a brand audit that ZLR conducted for the City. The brand audit examines the use and look of City communications (print media, website, social media, etc.) The consultants' recommendations included using the website to better advertise events in the Ames area, using photos of Ames scenes/residents, and more robust use of social media and the website in general. ZLR also held focus groups to identify challenges in marketing to millennials, and those challenges are detailed in this report. Examples include distinguishing Ames from ISU while still marketing the benefits brought by ISU, perception of Ames as dull compared to Des Moines, and high housing costs in Ames. - 3. Workshop on Landscape Ordinance.
Earlier this year, Council directed staff to develop a points-based approach to landscaping requirements for new developments. Staff are back with a system which includes 5 mandatory categories and 1 bonus category. Categories include soil management, environmental design, parking lot screening and front yard landscaping, planting design, ground cover, and site amenities (the bonus category). Each category has from 8 to 10 points, and a large site development would require 50 points, while a small site would require 33 points. Staff is asking for feedback on their proposed model.
