Downtown Visioning Workshop
Bronwyn's Council Preview |
The City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. this Tuesday. The agenda includes (but is not limited to):
- 2. Discussion of Downtown Vision.
One of the tasks we assigned ourselves at the January goal-setting meeting was to hold a workshop on our vision for Downtown. Topics of interest include residential parking standards (and perhaps our commercial parking system), stormwater management, a public space or plaza, and the incentives we offer for investment. On a related note, Downtown Ames was recently accepted on the National Register of Historic Places, which can free up some state/fed tax credits for historic rehabilitation. I imagine we will also be discussing our vision for how we incorporate the new DGC (Downtown Gateway Commercial) zone to the south of the railroad tracks.
All of this will make for an interesting meeting, as the things we hear and discuss will likely shape Downtown significantly in the years to come. As always, feel free to join us in person, or tune in on Channel 12 or the Facebook stream. I hear a lot of people tune in...I guess that says a lot about current TV options! But thank you to the viewers, and everyone who reaches out to give input, in all seriousness, I'm glad people care enough about Ames to tune in and speak up.
