Updates on Flood Mitigation, Industrial Expansion, and Grand Extension
Bronwyn's Council Preview |
The City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. this Tuesday. The agenda includes (but is not limited to):
- 27. Second passage of ordinance pertaining to exceptions and hardships to Rental Concentration Cap.
This is the second reading of this ordinance, so some slight changes are possible, but it should be a fairly short agenda item, as we've been through the substance of this topic in depth during prior meetings. - 29. Resolution setting date of public hearing as July 31, 2018, for proposed Campustown Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District.
The Campustown district is working to institute a SSMID, a geographic area that would be self-taxing to generate funds for improving the area, such as snow removal or trash cleanup. To set up such a district requires approval of 25% of the property owners in the area, CAA has secured the approval of over 40%. -
30. Staff Report on Public Works Major Project Updates:
a. East Industrial Area Utility Extension
If Council feels that the City should recoup infrastructure costs for the East Industrial Expansion, we need to direct staff to come up with a policy requiring new industries to the area to pay a connection fee to tie into our infrastructure.
b. Flood Mitigation - River Flooding (Squaw Creek near S. Duff Avenue)
The City missed out on a FEMA grant for this project this year. Staff are hopeful that we will have more success with another grant application. If successful, this project would require land acquisitions on both sides of Squaw Creek at Duff Ave.
c. Grand Avenue Extension
A highly anticipated project in Ames, the Grand extension is currently in the "land acquisition" phase, and staff are reporting back on progress (and lack thereof) in this arena.
