Progress on Grand Extension, Brookside Restroom Delay
Bronwyn's Council Preview |
The Ames City Council meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday at city hall. The agenda includes (but is not limited to):
-
-
This item represents another step towards the extension of Grand Avenue. The City will pay $103,400 to Legacy Golf Associates for costs associated with moving a cart path and tee box and re-landscaping. This will allow us to acquire leasehold interests necessary for the Grand Ave. extension.

26. Presentation of 2019 Resident Satisfaction Survey results.
-
The City's annual Resident Satisfaction Survey is mailed in April to 2,350 residents, 1,000 of whom are students. This year's survey shows similar high levels of satisfaction to prior years, with only a few notable deviations from prior years. For example, there was a noticeable jump in residents reporting storm sewer backups (page 22), up from less than 10% most years to over 40% in 2019. Human services and the Animal Shelter received the most support for increased funding. In general, the survey shows high satisfaction with most City services but many suggestions from residents on additional things to improve.

This item is continued from prior agendas, it is the request from the developer at 415 Stanton Ave. (the old Crawford school building) to allow a number of units be occupied by individuals under 55 years of age, as opposed to the original agreement, which required all the units have at least one resident aged 55 or older.

33. Hearing on Brookside Park Restroom Renovation Project.
-
Unfortunately, the two bids received for reconstruction of the damaged Brookside restroom were both higher than the architect's estimate and more costly than the available funds for reconstruction. The bids came in at $295,000 and $380,000, while current allocated funding is $223,606. This restroom repair is essential, as Brookside is a high-traffic and much loved park. Options include re-bidding the project or diverting funds from other planned park system renovations.

36. ISU Research Park Urban Renewal Area. Correcting boundaries of Tax-Increment Financing District No. 1 and ordinance creating Tax-Increment Financing District No. 2.
-
The first TIF district was established at the ISU Research Park in 2014 to support development of infrastructure needed to move through Phase III of development. Now the idea is a new TIF district will be established to support the development of Phase IV.

Non-Agenda Packet: The following items are requests and communications to the council that are not on the agenda. This includes staff reports and communications/request from constituents/developers. By tradition the council can ask city staff for more information (a report), put the item on a future agenda for discussion or just accept the communication (taking no further action). This usually takes place at the end of the meeting during council comments.
