David's Council Preview |
The Ames City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda is focused on the comprehensive plan.
- 1. Ames Plan 2040 Update. This item has two objectives. The first is to discuss housing policy interests and issues. Relevant topics that have come up over the past year include affordability, mix of housing/building types, location of housing, flexible vs. intentional implementation, and existing neighborhoods. This is expected to be a "more fluid" conversation on shaping of the principles for housing. The second objective is to explore an example of a land use classification scheme that the RDG consultants are considering using in the Ames Plan 2040. The map image below is an example of how the scheme might present some aspects of land use policy. My understanding is that this example is really about how land use designation would be communicated; the council is not currently being asked to adopt this particular plan.
Non-Agenda Packet: The following items are requests and communications to the council that are not on the agenda for full discussion. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically the council will ask city staff for more information (a memo), put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action. Council generally processes these requests and communications during the agenda portion called "Disposition of Communications to Council."
- P&Z Meeting Summary Ames Plan 2040. This memo summarizes the Planning and Zoning Commission's discussion of the potential Ames Plan 2040 expansion areas and upcoming issues related to housing and character.
- Parking on Westbrook Drive. The resident asks Council to have staff investigate and hopefully improve on-street parking.
- Regional Improvements at State Avenue & Zumwalt Station Rd. In this letter, Council is being asked to address some questions about how infrastructure improvements may be made and paid for at these intersections and possibly on Dartmoor Rd.
