The Ames City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. on Zoom. The agenda includes a single item:
- 1. Ames Plan 2040 Workshop on Future Land Use Map. In this item, the City's Planning staff and RDG consultants will be presenting a proposed Future Land Use Map and corresponding descriptions of its designations and sample policies that would go with them. The proposal is based on input from the community and direction from the Mayor and Council to date. This is our first view of this level of detail, and Council is not being asked to decide whether to adopt the proposal during this meeting. We are likely to revisit this proposal on April 28 and may take action (by approving the proposal, approving it with modifications, or rejecting it) at that time.
After a presentation by staff and the consultant, Council was able to ask questions about this draft Future Land Use Map. Staff described how the new land use designations are different and allow more flexibility than prior Land Use Plan designations. We also reviewed a few areas that were suggested for "redirection", which could include infill, such as areas south of Lincoln Way and east of Duff or areas south of Campustown. Direction from Council regarding this draft Future Land Use Map will come at a subsequent Council meeting.

Non-Agenda Packet: The following items are requests and communications to the council that are not on the agenda for full discussion. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically the council will ask city staff for more information (a memo), put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action. Council generally processes these requests and communications during the agenda portion called "Disposition of Communications to Council." (video)
- Henkel Brookside Restrooms Update. The company contracted to restore the fire-damaged Brookside Park restrooms writes that "factors beyond our control relating to the COVID-19 pandemic may delay the project."
- Traffic Concerns at 6th and Northwestern. The requester asks for safety improvements to be made to this intersection.
