(Note that emails to elected officials are generally subject to Iowa Open Records requests)
The Ames City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m at City Hall. The agenda is a single item:
- 1. Staff presentation and overview of Draft Ames Plan 2040 (No public input will be taken at this meeting.) The Ames Plan 2040 under development is the result of outreach activities in the community, City staff and consultant guidance, and engagement with Council. The plan covers growth and land use, the city environment, parks/trails/greenways, mobility, neighborhoods/subareas, and community character, all to set the stage for decision-making in future years and to offer guidance towards desired outcomes.
While the development of Ames Plan 2040 went on extended hiatus during the pandemic, we're now planning a series of meetings intended to complete it by the end of the calendar year. During tonight's workshop, staff will walk through the draft plan for the first time. This begins a phase of Council review and edits prior to the release of a public draft. We're currently hoping to release a public draft for a one-month public review and comment period beginning in mid-August. In the meantime, attend or watch the video of this meeting for a preview of how the plan is shaping up!
(Reminder: Ames Plan 2040 is different than the Climate Action Plan now underway, even though the two plans will certainly overlap and influence each other. The City is still accepting applications for appointment to the Ames Climate Action Planning Supplemental Input Committee — follow this link for details.)
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
-
Tables Downtown. This letter asks the City to consider adding tables near Main Street for public use.
-
Freddy's Reserved Parking. This letter requests that Campustown parking spots that were temporarily made available for delivery and mobile order pickup to be permanently designated for that use.
-
Land Swap Request. This letter asks the City to consider trading a City-owned lot for a lot that's to be sold as part of the Ioway Creek flood mitigation project.
