Usually some of the agenda items will have a period where members of the public may briefly speak to Council.
TO REACH THE MAYOR AND ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL:
Send email to MayorCouncil@AmesCityCouncil.org
(Note that emails to elected officials are generally subject to Iowa Open Records requests)
The Ames City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda includes the following (and much more). Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.
- 2. Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan .
A safe, connected, and accessible network for non-car users is hugely important, for a number of reasons. (Equity, sustainability, and economics, just to name a few.) Tonight's workshop will cover the following:- a review of public input received by the consultant to-date (No further public input will be taken by the consultant at the meeting, but if you do have input, reach out to your council member(s) via e-mail at any time to let us know.)
- an analysis of our current network and its gaps
- wayfinding signage concepts
Council reviewed the public comments received so far along with demographic information, upcoming plans for public engagement, and the revised vision statement and goals for the master plan. Some maps of our existing network gaps and network usage were shown, as well as the safety of the existing system and areas of stress for pedestrians and bicyclists. This information will be considered again later in the process once we move towards prioritization and implementation of future projects. Finally, we viewed some preliminary signage concepts for wayfinding around Ames and how they could tie into existing City of Ames and Iowa State University signage.
To stay up to date on the bicycle and pedestrian plan process, there is a webpage called cityofames.org/walkbikeroll that will continuously be updated as work on the plan continues. I would also recommend sending any input on the bicycle and pedestrian master plan to walkbikeroll@cityofames.org. All of the input that is emailed here is accessible by the consultants and city of Ames staff working on the plan and will be rolled into future public input updates to the city council.
