The Ames City Council meets on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall (note earlier meeting time). The agenda includes the following (and much more). Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.
Budget Wrap-Up
As part of our annual budget process, this meeting includes decisions on funding levels for the following:
- Council Budget Presentations:
a. Public Art
b. Arts Funding (COTA)
c. Human Services(ASSET)
d. Outside Funding Requests
e. Other Requests - Public Input on the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) and the Budget (also see Specail Reports)
Council had a meeting about the CIP on 1/17 and budget presentations on 2/3, 2/7, 2/8, and 2/9. Public input was not allowed at those meetings, so now this is the time designated for public input on our budget documents. - Final Council Decisions:
After the final presentations and public input as mentioned above, Council will be asked to make the following budgetary decisions:
a. Amendments to 2023-2028 CIP
b. Vote on motion to approve 2023-2028 CIP
c. Amendments to FY 2022/23 Adjusted Budget
d. Vote on motion to approve Adjusted Budget for FY 2022/23, as amended
e. Amendments to proposed FY 2023/24 Budget
f. Vote on motion to approve proposed budget for FY 2023/24, as amended
The Regular City Council meeting will immediately follow Budget Wrap-Up.
- 41. First passage of ordinance relating to RAGBRAI events on July 24-26, 2023.
As you might have heard by now, RAGBRAI is returning to Ames on Tuesday, July 25. Like prior RAGBRAI years, Staff are recommending a series of temporary ordinance changes to assist in facilitating that event. Changes for that day include:
- Allow overnight camping in City parks
- Allow vehicles in City parks
- Run all outdoor vending permits through RAGBRAI organizers
- No additional outdoor alcohol service locations allowed other than the official RAGBRAI beverage garden
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
- LUPP map change for Lutheran Church of Hope.
- On premise drinking fine structure.
- Animal shelter concerns.
