The Ames City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda includes the following. Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.
- 32. Motion approving revised City Council Values, Goals, and Tasks for 2022-2023
Every two years (following elections) Council reviews our list of Values and Goals, and establishes related tasks to be accomplished in that time period. Following non-election years, Council does a review of these goals and tasks, and adds or modifies the list. Council is being asked to approve the updated list of tasks, and staff are asking for a Council decision on an additional request from the Mayor to review the conservation subdivision requirements in place near Ada Hayden park. - 33. Staff report on the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center .
Staff are reporting back on progress made toward the planning and design of the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center. Updated construction estimates (not even official bids yet) are approximately $3 million more than the original construction budget of $20.5 million. The image below shows a walking track area, which is a potential add-on that would cost another $3 million or so. (A decision to include this alternate walking track or not has not yet been made by Council.) At this meeting, Council is being asked for direction on priorities including design, efficiency, quality of materials, affect on operations, and service levels. - 34. Funding Agreements associated with Story County Saturated Buffer/Bioreactor Project .
In order to improve water quality, the Water Pollution Control department has been working with landowners, Story County, and the IA Dept of Ag & Land Stewardship to install bioreactors and saturated buffers at strategic points in the watershed. This item continues funding the City's edge-of-field water quality strategy.
- 35. Integrated Site Plan Subdivision for Daniel’s Subdivision, 2nd Addition .
This item details a subdivision which would facilitate a drive-through coffee shop on the lot west of BAM/Best Buy.
- 36. Minor Final Plat for Hidden Creek Farm, Plat 1 (W 190th Street).
This Final Plat would divide the subject property into Lot 1, intended for a church if the conditional use permit is granted by Story County, and an Outlot A, which could be used for future development (but can't be developed with this plat). This parcel is outside City limits, but cities have subdivision review authority within two miles of their boundaries, aka The Fringe. - 37. Resolution approving Development Agreement with Townhomes at Creekside, LLLP (affiliated with Hatch Development Group) in conjunction with a Low-Income Tax Credit (LIHTC) Application for multi-family housing development for Lot 27 in the Baker Subdivision .
- 38. Hearing on Baker Subdivision (321 State Avenue)
Items 37 and 38 are a continuation of actions we have taken over the last few months to arrange for a housing development to be built in the Baker Subdivision off of State Ave. - 39. Hearing on submittal of Second Substantial Amendment to the City’s 2021/22 CDBG/HOME Annual Action Plan to include HOME-American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Program Funds .
- 40. Hearing on Rezoning a portion of the property adjacent to the southwest corner of Cameron School Road and GW Carver Avenue (The Bluffs at Dankbar Farms) .
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
