(Note that emails to elected officials are generally subject to Iowa Open Records requests)
The Ames City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda includes the following. Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.
- AAMPO (Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization) Transportation Policy Committee Meeting
1. Motion accepting the findings of the 190th Street Corridor Study.
This is the continuation of an item from the July 18th meeting, during which we heard the report but delayed taking action until more members of the AAMPO could be present.

Appendix B .
Appendix C .
Appendix D . - 18. Resolution approving Memorandum of Understanding with Iowa State University for 2022/23 Traffic Signal Program (State Avenue and Mortensen Permanent Signal).
The intersection of Mortensen and State Avenue is shared territory between ISU and the City, and we are upgrading the temporary traffic signal there to a permanent one. ISU and the City will each pay approximately $180k for this permanent traffic light. - 28. Motion approving/denying a new eight-month license for Class C Retail Alcohol License – Terry & Andy’s Tacos Inc. (Es Tas) 216 Stanton, Pending Dramshop Status.
At a recent meeting, we denied the applicant's request for a 12-month license with the understanding they would likely apply for an 8-month license. Staff are recommending approval contingent upon the business following through on their proposed mitigation strategy. - 29. Resolution endorsing Iowa Economic Development Authority Application for Financial Assistance for 3M Company.
This item is part of 3M's application for State IEDA funding, though there is no local $ match requirement. - 30. Resolution approving City Meeting Code of Conduct.
This proposed Code of Conduct for City meetings addresses issues such as time limits for speakers, speech limited to City business, no applause appreciated from the audience, clothing required, and cell phone use, among other topics. Some of these are our current practice, others proposed after examples from elsewhere.
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
- Woodland and Westwood.
- Dollar Tree request.
- Public comments since7-18-23 property maintenance.
- Arrasmith Story County subdivision withdrawal.
- 102 and 112 North Hyland rezoning request.
