The Ames City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda includes the following. Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.
- 35. Resolution awarding five year contract, and approving year one payment for new website backend and redesign improvements to Granicus LLC, of Denver, Colorado in the amount not to exceed $83,412.54 .
The City's website was last overhauled in 2009, so it is due for a review. Our website is the most used feedback mechanism of the city, according to our resident satisfaction survey, so it is important that it be kept accurate and up-to-date. Suggested improvements include better compatibility with mobile devices, better ADA accessibility, and an electronic agenda management system for public meeting records. - 36. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for the City’s Electric Utility.
At our last meeting, we approved a contract for $109,365 for this service but travel expenses have now bumped that total to $119,940. Council is being asked to reconsider last week's motion and then proceed with the new figure. -
37. Resolution accepting donation of 0.60 acres of land at 1000 Jarrett Circle and direct staff to finalize the deed transfer.
In August, the City was approached by Herman Quirmbach, Leigh Tesfatsion, and William Gutoswki about the donation of a property they own at 1000 Jarrett Circle. As you can see from the following map, the property is located adjacent to Emma McCarthy Lee Park and features the same topography and wooded nature as the rest of the park. The owners stipulate that no structures (other than safety improvements) be added and that no entrance signage be added for a period of 20 years. The Parks and Rec Commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval of this donation.

38. Staff update on items related to the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center.
Staff are reporting on 3 main topics. The timing of the required state review of this project, the mitigation steps we plan to deploy in order to ensure any contaminated soil or water is carefully handled, and an initial investment of $500k from Story County. This investment from Story County would help buy down the cost of admission for all Story County residents for a period of ten years. -
41. Hearing on E. 13th Street Sanitary Sewer Extension.
The City is planning to use $2,125,500 in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding for a sanitary sewer extension under Interstate 35 along East 13th St.
-
43. Downtown Urban Revitalization Area.
At an August meeting, Council directed Staff to draft some changes to our Downtown Urban Revitalization program. This staff report outlines those proposed changes, such as offering a 3, 5, or 10 year tax abatement option, among others.
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
- Mortensen speed study combined.
- Natural gas purchase for power plant.
- NRHP grant for Chautauqua Park Ridgewood.
