The Regular City Council Meeting will immediately follow the meeting of the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) Transportation Policy Committee.
-
21. Staff Report on Sidewalk Safety Program.
In November, Council requested a staff report on the topic of sidewalk repair/maintenance. This staff report outlines the standards for new sidewalk construction, which now differ from standards for repair, as of October 2023. (Sidewalk standards are developed by the U.S. Access Board into a document called PROWAG, which was updated in October of 2023.) -
22. 2024-2029 Capital Improvements Plan
At our last workshop, Council got an overview of this CIP. Now is the time for any public input on projects in the CIP, or any that residents feel should be added. -
23. Resolution Approving Agreements with the State of Iowa and Story County for Parking Ticket and Accounts Receivable collections.
In the past, the City has submitted unpaid parking tickets and unpaid utility bills to two separate collection agencies for assistance in recovering the unpaid funds. Upon reviewing collection systems, it turns out there is an opportunity for partnership with the County, wherein they would delay vehicle registration or renewal until parking fines are paid. The State has an additional system of repayment which collects delinquent fines through lottery and casino funds. Staff recommend adopting both programs to assist with parking fine and utility bill debt collection. -
24. Requests from The Grand Drives, LLC for Campustown Showdown on April 20, 2024.
This item requests a street closure for a cattle drive in Campustown. The street would be closed, and select cattle would be displayed following the cattle show at the Hansen Ag Center. The street closure would also allow for vendors and a stage. -
27. Resolution approving the 2023 accomplishments of the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Work Plan for 2024 as described in the 2023 Certified Local Government (CLG) Report.
This report recaps the work of the HPC, and confirms their upcoming workplan. -
29. Hearing on Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center.
Bids are in for the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center, and staff report that they are favorable, which is good news. Council is being asked to approve all, but rebid one portion of the concrete work. The construction total, $18,613,146, may change slightly due to that rebidding, but not substantially.
Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially. This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
